2017 Travel Resolutions

New Years Eve in Chiang Mai, Thailand
New Years Eve in Chiang Mai, Thailand

I think my wanderlust began 5 years ago, in 2011 when I first studied abroad in college. But over the last couple years, the feeling of having to get out and see the world has only gotten stronger. I have a good job, I love my life in Austin, but the excitement I get when I step off the plane (train, bus, car, etc.) into a new place draws me back to travel sites to book my next trip. Last summer, I spent 3 weeks in Croatia, and I never wanted to leave. It was an amazing experience where I was able to slow down and enjoy the beauty and quirks of the vibrant country. We drove from the southern tip of Croatia to the capital, Zagreb, eating wonderful meals and stopping in beautiful towns along the way. When I got back home, I couldn’t stop thinking about the next time I’d be able to do something similar again. I have decided to make travel a bigger priority in my 2017. To be honest, the thought of quitting my job to pursue full time travel is terrifying. I have toyed with the idea but…maybe later. Instead, for 2017, these are my travel resolutions:

1. Go often and disconnect. I’m constantly searching for wifi when I’m in a foreign country. While sometimes this is to map routes or to reach family back home, more so it is my addiction to connection 24/7. My goal is to travel often and disconnect while doing so. I want to make it a priority to connect and engage with my immediate surroundings and appreciate the place I’m in in the moment.

2. See more of America! I love traveling around the world. I think I’m enamored with experiencing international lifestyles and cultures. But in 2017, I want to explore more of the beautiful country I live in.

3. Document these trips for this blog. As I travel more, I hope to share more. I’d like to use this blog to share my experiences, dreams, goals, and tips around Travel.

Let’s get started!
